Despite the fact, that most people come to Tenerife to enjoy the sun, The beaches and nightlife of the island offer many more attractions. In the central part rises the volcano El Teide with the surrounding moonlit scenery of the Parque Nacional de las Cañadas del Teide national park. The location is perfect for unforgettable hiking tours. You can choose from many trekking routes. From the north and west we go hiking among forested hills and deep valleys. There are hardly any tourists on the less traveled routes and it is impressive, that man was on a completely different island remembering the hustle and bustle of holiday resorts on the coast. From the south, the routes lead through barren hills overgrown with drought-resistant plants. Whichever route we choose, Teide remains the main challenge, although it is relatively easy to get if we do not have problems with altitude sickness.
The most important information about El Teide:
– It is the highest mountain in the Canary Islands and in all of Spain
– The volcanic scenery is absolutely amazing, colorful and dramatic.
– Though it will most likely be sunny while ascending the summit, the lower areas will often be clouded.
– A clearly visible path leads to the very top, however, it may become slippery when going down.
– The summit is located on the edge of an inactive volcano and is classified as safe.
– A permit is required to cover the last 200 meters from the cable car to the top (possible "on line", but recently you had to apply for them two weeks in advance). It is only valid for one specific day to limit the number of tourists visiting the summit.
– The whole area is a National Park and it is forbidden to stray in the marked footpaths.
– Although it is possible to ascend and descend without any problems, symptoms of altitude sickness such as fatigue may appear in one day, dizziness or tightness in the stomach and in this case it is best to give up and go down.
– You should take a large supply of water with you because now you can get it only in one place along the route.
– It is a high altitude and we must take into account, on the one hand, low temperatures and strong wind, and on the other hand, the sun strongly operating at this width and the possibility of burns in the absence of security.
– It is possible to ascend almost to the top by cable car and enjoy the wonderful panorama from the path below the top without much effort.
