Communication
Santa Cruz de la Palma is small enough, that there is no public transport in the city. Buses connecting the capital city with other towns do not depart from the station, but with stops near the Płaza de Constitución and Avenida Marltima. Persons, who come to Santa Cruz by car, can park in a large car park along the coast, on Avenida Marftima. Finding a parking space, in one of the small streets is virtually impossible.
Orientation and information
You can say a lot about La Palma, but definitely not this, that is a big city. All institutions, shops, monuments, bars and restaurants are concentrated between Plaza de la Constitución and Plaza de Alameda - on the main street, Calle 0Daly (also called Calle Real), the seaside promenade and the narrow streets surrounding them. The best way to explore the town is on foot.
At Beach de la Constitución is the glass pavilion of the island's main tourist information office (tel922412106, info@lapalmaturismo.com, www.lapalmaturismo.com; pn.-pt. 9.00-19.30, sb. 9.00-15.00, nd. 9.00-14.00), where you can find a lot of information about the city and about La Palma. Accommodation
There are enough accommodation options in Santa Cruz de la Palma, so that everyone can find something for themselves.
National Tourism Parador (Zumacal highway tel 922435828, lapalma@parador.es, www.paradores.es). The most elegant hotel on the island is kept in the style of a typical Canarian country house. Because the hotel stands above Santa Cruz (ok. 8 km from the city), within Brea Alta, most of the rooms have beautiful views of the capital and the ocean. San Telmo (c / San Telmo 5; tel 922415385, fax 922415372, hotelsantelmo@yahoo.es, www.hotel-santelmo.com). Two star hotel in the upper part of town, decorated in a renovated historic building. There are eight rooms with bathrooms at the guests' disposal.
Aparthotel Castillete (Avda. Marftima 75; tel 922420534, fax 922420067, h.castillete@telefonica.net, www.aparthotelcastillete.com). Modern apartments with a slightly higher standard (There is a rooftop swimming pool at guests' disposal), but who lack character. However, the location on one of the busiest streets in the capital is not conducive to leisure.
Montecristo Apartments (c / Montecritso 33; ®922415636, www.la-fuente.com). Apartments with a beautiful view of the port in a historic building.
The fountain (c / Anselmo Pśrez de Brito 49;
®922415636, www.la-fuente.com). One of the best accommodation options in the city - apartments in a historic building renovated in 1998 r. they rather have the standard of a good two star hotel. An additional plus is Wi-Fi Internet in the hall.
The Cuban (c/0Daly 24; w922411354, www.la-fuente.com). Modest, but a clean guesthouse, decorated in a 200-year-old house. Unfortunately, Only one bathroom has been arranged in such a historic tenement house, shared by all six rooms.
Canary Islands pension (c / Cabrera Pinto 27; tel 922413182, pensioncanarias @ autosmagui.com). The guesthouse offers small rooms with bathrooms and TV sets.
Gastronomy
Restaurants and pubs are concentrated mainly on Avenida Marftima and calle 0 Daly. You can choose between elegant restaurants and simple bars.
Bar-Arepera El Encuentro (c / Perez de Brito; tel 922411044). Cheap and unpretentious bar, which serves the Venezuelan specialty -arenas (stuffed corn pancakes, e.g.. meat).
Enriclai (c/Dr Sćinchez Abreu 2; tel 680203290). Five tables, Provencal decor; the guests are served by the owners, Italian and Spanish, and their cuisine is the result of all these tastes – in one word, it is one of the most atmospheric pubs in the city.
Still life Taburiente (with Pedro Pogio 7; tel-92241 6442). Traditional restaurant, slightly above Mercado. They serve good and traditional food at reasonable prices – they testify
0 including the crowds of Santa Cruz residents; It's especially hard to find a table on weekends.
Donosti Pintxos (Avda. Maritima 57; b922414004). A popular place for a mat for a snack and a glass of wine, and a Basque-style dinner.
The Lonja (Avda. Maritima 55; ©922415266). Nice restaurant decorated in one of the historic houses on the seaside promenade. Good, traditional dishes are not inferior to beautiful interiors.
Entertainment
Santa Cruz de la Palma is not a fun place - there is not a single disco in the city, and their substitute is a few pubs on calle Alvarez de Abreo. Herradura is very popular here, Tasca las Cuatro or the familiar-sounding Sputnik.
