Almost half of the island (48,6%)[14] is under protection managed by Red Canaria de Espacios Naturales Protegidos. Out of 146 protected areas of the Canary Islands[15] 43 are located in Tenerife[16]. There are eight types of protected areas here. In addition to the Teide national park, there is the natural park Parque Natural de la Corona Forestal, two country parks: (Anaga Rural Park and Teno Rural Park), four reservations (The Pijaral, Ijuana, Rocks of Anaga, The Slip), six special reserves (m.in. Malpais de Güimar, Hell ravine, Cleanliness), fourteen nature monuments, nine protected landscape areas and six sites of scientific interest.
