Sailing yacht cruise and diving in the Canary Islands.
The Canary Islands are ideal for diving and sailing holidays all year round. They are located near the northwest coast of Africa next to Western Sahara. The constant north-west wind dominates here almost all year round, making sailing a really exciting experience, but at the same time chartering a yacht here requires more experience than e.g.. in the Mediterranean Sea.
Yacht charter in Tenerife gives you the opportunity to visit the three least changed and urbanized islands of the archipelago - La Palma, La Gomery and El Hierro, which for a very long time before the discovery of America, were considered the end of the world.
The Canary Islands have a very good infrastructure in the form of numerous ports and marinas.
Sailing in Tenerife
The yachts are located in the capital of Tenerife Santa Cruz and in the San Miguel marina in the south of the island near the airport. The island is home to Spain's highest peak, beautiful beaches and seaside restaurants. Santa Cruz is a nice town with lots of shaded squares and great shops.
La Gomera remains an oasis untouched by organized tourism and that is its greatest charm. Wild, secluded coves, the ancient laurel forest and the historic port of San Sebastian, from which Columbus set off on his first historical journey are its greatest attractions.
La Palma is the most exotic island of the entire archipelago made of a volcanic crater. The coastline is formed by majestic steep cliffs and black volcanic beaches.
El Hierro is the smallest beautiful island, raw appearance, crystal clear water and amazing rock formations. Perfect for snorkeling or diving.
Day 1 :
Embarkation in Santa Cruz, the capital of Tenerife, about 30min drive from the airport.
Day 2 :
Diving on the north side of Tenerife - La Cathedral, Garachico. A night in the marina in the charming town of Garachico. Interesting place where a lot is going on. The marina is situated next to a pebble beach and beautiful natural volcanic pools!
Day 3 :
Garachico-San Sebastian La Gomera. Between Tenerife and La Gomera, there are approximately 600 pilot whales and a lot of dolphins, which very often accompany sailing yachts. The Port of San Sebastian is the place to be, from which Christopher Columbus set off on his famous voyage. A night in San Sebastian combined with trying local cuisine. The whole island is a wonderful sanctuary of natural beauty, undamaged by man.
Day 4 :
Hike ashore and admire steep cliffs, amphibian, palm groves and Garajonay National Park, a unique ecological treasure with green laurel forests. Diving in the south of the island.
Day 5 :
San Sebastian - La Restinga (65nm) in El Hierro. Spectacular scenery above and below the water's surface. Diving in "The Calm Sea" or "Mar de Las Calmas" (under UNESCO protection from 2000 year) on the south. Possibility to dive along spectacular rock walls in a calm ocean, which provides ideal conditions for the development of corals and the observation of pelagic fish. Reefs, underwater mountain peaks, boulders, caves and volcanic arches are a constant diversion in diving here. The most common species are, among others, Najeka, Trumpet fish, Puffer fish, golden, Seriola, Tuna, gray and yellow Trigerfish and Gruper. Manta rays can sometimes be found near the rock walls, Hammer sharks. Sometimes they visit the island of Whale Sharks. Many underwater photography competitions take place here and the island is classified as one of the most interesting diving sites in the Atlantic.. The ocean is exceptionally clear. All this and the very friendly disposition of the inhabitants make visiting the smallest island an unforgettable experience.
Day 6 :
El Hierro - diving, sightseeing
Day 7 :
Gates of the Port of Tazacorte (60nm???)and La Palmie, the most exotic of all the islands, formed from a volcano crater. La Palma is called by the Canarians the "Beautiful Island" because of its incredibly lush vegetation, an abundance of fresh clean water and plenty of flowers contrasting with the volcanic forms that testify to the origin of the island.
Most of the dives take place around Los Cancajos and Puerto Naos, around which the largest number of leisure and entertainment centers is also concentrated. Near the resorts there are black volcanic beaches ideal for lovers of sun and bathing. There are many amazing cliffs under the water, volcanic arches, steep rock walls, caves and canyons. Visibility often exceeds 30m. It is an island much less crowded than other Canary Islands, but undoubtedly just as charming and beautiful. The island is still poorly explored underwater and new dive sites are discovered almost every day!
