The small village of Benchijigua seems to be a place completely cut off from the world – you can only get here by a dirt road, reflecting north of the Jerdue-Playa Santiago highway. There are at least a dozen reasons to visit this place, and the most important is this one, that the settlement lies inside a volcanic caldera. As befits a volcanic island, There are of course more volcanic remnants on La Gomera, however, as the recent outbursts have taken place over 2 million years ago, eroded and became so lush green, that they are no longer visible. From the middle of the caldera you can see the Roque Agando towering over the valley, where the hiking trail to Benchijigua begins.
Chipude and surroundings
Chipude's biggest and almost only attraction is Fortaleza de Chipude – measuring 1217 m rock formation, which due to its characteristic shape is called a fortress. The rock towering over Chipude, also known as the holy mountain of Guanche, makes, that the town is a must-see on the route of all visitors to La Gomera. Another attraction is the Iglesia de la Candelaria from the 16th century. Chipude is a good base for trips into the Garajonay National Park, that is why it is worth renting one of the three four-person Las Manantiales houses or a room in the Sonia guesthouse, whose owners run a restaurant of the same name. You can also eat in the Nauarro bar.
The Fencing
Coming from Chipude towards Las Hayas, you drive through the small town of El Cercado. It is worth stopping in it for a moment - apparently it is here that the spirits of Guanches live in the clay. Furthermore, the ancient spirit can be taken home with you – the town is famous for the production of traditional ceramics, which is made here by hand, without the use of a potter's wheel. Very nice products can be bought in shops next to pottery workshops (e.g. Rufina or Maria).
Jets of Epina
On the edge of the park, in the forest, not far from the small settlement of Epina, the enchanted springs of Gomera beat – Jets of Epina. According to local legend, this one, who will drink from them, he will meet the love of his life (women should drink from odd sources, and the men of the even).
The Witches of Laguna Grande

Apparently one night, when the moon was full, here a shepherd got lost in search of the lost sheep. Breaking through the forest, the young man heard the rhythmic voice of the drum. Happy, that he won't spend the night alone, headed towards, where the music was coming from. He was about to enter the clearing, when a terrifying scene appeared before his eyes: half-naked women with flowing hair, dancing around a huge fire, they called on Satan. But the curiosity was greater than the fear – the young man watched the Sabbath from his hiding place. When an inhuman figure began to emerge from the fire, and a dead eagle owl fell at the young man's feet from a nearby tree, decided to take his legs under his belt. Paralyzed with fear, however, he had no strength to run - he lay down under the nearest tree, he closed his eyes and decided to wait until sunrise. When the next morning he woke up, the events of the previous night had seemed to him only a bad dream, though a few steps from the place, in which he slept, found a dead eagle owl…
