The best way to explore the park is by hiking. There are so many trails of varying difficulty within the park, that everyone will find something for themselves. There are so many trails, that it takes at least a few days to travel through them all. One of the most popular options is a walk around Laguna Grande (The Grandę Lagoon I – 1 km, ok. 30 min; La Laguna Grande II – 4 km, ok. 1 at. 40 min), baranquillos (1 km, ok. 30 min; a relatively easy trail in the northwest of the park, running through beautiful moors), The Creces (4,5 km, ok. 1 at. 30 min; easy route in the western part of the park, leading through a dense laurel forest), The Contadero-Alto de Garajonay oraz Pajaritos-Alto de Garajonay (2,5 km, ok. 1 at. 30 min; routes of medium difficulty, leading through the laurel forest to the highest hill in Gomera -Al to de Garajonay, from which you can see El Hierro on clear days, La Palma and Tenerife), El Contadero-El Cedro (5 km, ok. 3 at; medium difficulty trail, running through the moorland and dense laurel forest from Contadero to the settlement of El Cedro).
Viewpoints
There are numerous viewpoints in the park, the so-called. viewpoints, with beautiful views. Most of these places can be reached by car. There is an information board at each of the viewpoints. The most beautiful view is from the vantage point on the highest hill of the island – Alto de Garajonay. Weather permitting, you can enjoy the panoramic view of La Gomera, but also Tenerife, La Palmy and El Hierro.
Okolice Garajonay National Park
El Cedro Located just outside the Garajonay National Park, the small settlement of El Cedro is famous for the surrounding laurel forest - Bosque del Cedro, through which a small stream flows continuously throughout the year (something rare in the Canary Islands). Just outside the El Cedro stream, already as El Chorro del Cedro, cascades down 150 m downhill to the valley of La Hermigua. If anyone wants to take a closer look at the waterfall, should go on a trip along the La Hermigua-Garajonay trail. A charming and easy trip is the walk to the Ermita Nuestra Seora de Lourdes chapel, only one kilometer away. El Cedro is the perfect base for trips into the park. In an almost deserted village there are three casas rurales for two people: The age, The Laurel and Los Castaos. You can spend the night at the only campsite on the island for free, The view, next to which there is a bar with the same name.
