The most beautiful Canarian love story is about the fate of the Guanchean princess Gary and a young boy from Tenerife, Jonah, driven by curiosity, decided to swim to La Gomera. She saved the exhausted young man from inevitable death, whose sea washed up onto the beach, just a princess. After a few days together, the young people developed a great passion for each other. Meanwhile, Father Gary, dissatisfied with this turn of events, decided to banish Jonay from the island. Young lovers decided to seek shelter in the mountains. Under the cover of night, they managed to reach the highest peak of La Gomera – unfortunately, in the morning it turned out, that even high in the mountains they are not safe. Hearing the approaching chase, Jonay tried to convince Gara, that she would return to her father and beg his forgiveness. Instead, the princess sharpened the two ends of the branch; one she rested at the height of her heart, and the other at the height of Jonay's heart and asked her lover, that he hugs her tightly. The branch pierced the hearts of lovers, uniting the young forever. Since then, the people of La Gomera, moved by the power of Gary and Jonay's feelings, they call the highest peak Alto de Garajonay.
