The northern part of the island of Lanzarote

Orzola

Many people come to Orzola just for that, to take the ferry to La Graciosa. Few of them know, that to the south of the town there are several lovely sandy beaches, called here caletones. Besides, Orzola herself – a typical fishing village of white houses by the azure water – this is definitely the place, in which it is worth spending a few moments. Golden sand, from under which black volcanic rocks protrude here and there, can be found south of the settlement on the beaches of Charca de la Laja, Caletón Blanco oraz Caletón Blanco. The surfers took a liking to the north of Orzola (Access via an unpaved road) Cantena beach. Persons, who plan to take a bath there, should be especially careful due to strong currents.

A bus goes to Orzola three times a day #9 z Arrecife. Arrivals and departures are coordinated with the ferry schedule between Orzola and La Graciosa. There are many good and inexpensive restaurants around the port. Lunch is worth having on the terrace in Perla del Atlantico or in the unpretentious Alerganza and El Charco Viejo. Canarian cuisine –Galician can be tasted at Os Gallegos. You can only stay overnight in Apartamentos Charco de la Pared. Just outside the city, a small farm-zoo was created, Las Pardelas Natural Park, an ideal place of entertainment for parents with children, where you can see farm animals up close, ride a donkey and take part in a pottery workshop.

Mirador del Rio

Mirador del Rio in the north of Lanzarote is a former artillery position, which in 1973 r. Cesar Manriau transformed into a vantage point suspended between heaven and earth, being one of the most beautiful places in the Canary Islands. On entering a building resembling a bunker, I guess no one is expecting the views, from the panoramic window to the azure waters of the sea in the El Rio isthmus, behind which are the islands of the Chinijo archipelago, with La Graciosa in the foreground. Tourists, who do not suffer from fear of heights and spaces, they can go out onto the outer terraces suspended above the 450-meter volcanic cliff. You can see the disused salt works below. Inside the viewpoint there is a café and a restaurant.

Persons, who decide not to enter the Mirador del Rio interior, can admire the surroundings from the cliff to the left of the viewpoint. To get there, just follow other tourists – this place is extremely popular, even though admission to the cliff is officially forbidden.

Playa del Risco and Salinas del Rio

At the foot of the cliff, over which the Mirador del Rio rises, you can see the oldest in the Canary archipelago, The salt works plant is closed: salt flats of the river. There is also the 700 meter long Playa del Risco. Both places offer breathtaking views of La Graciosa. This part of the island is the perfect place for people looking for peace – due to difficult access, very few reach here.

Ye and Crown Volcano

Lost in the north, the sleepy village of white houses is a perfect example of typical Lanzarote architecture. Palm trees, traditional buildings and a small parish church are all, what can be found in Ye, which is an ideal excursion base to the top of the Corona volcano towering over the village. The bus stops several times a day in the village #7.

Guinate and Guinate Tropical Park

On the opposite side of the Corona volcano there is a village aptly named Guinate. Its biggest attraction is the Parque Tropical de Guinate, in which you can see over 1,3 thousand. species of exotic birds, animals and plants. After visiting the park, head towards the Mirador de Guinate, from where you can admire the beautiful panorama of the Chinijo archipelago.

Would do

Lots of people say, that Haria, situated in the valley, is the most beautiful town in Laznarote. Actually, low white houses adorned with cascades of purple bougainvillea and red poinsettia trees, surrounded by almost a thousand palm trees (it is said that according to the old custom, one palm was planted for the birth of a daughter and two for the birth of a son), they look like watercolor.
Haria looks particularly beautiful from a distant friar 4 km south of Mirador de Haria.
In the town itself, it is worth visiting the main square with eucalyptus trees, Plaża León and Castillo, next to which there is a modern church, traditional tenement houses and several restaurants. Museo de Arte Sacro is to be built in one of the renovated tenement houses (Museum of Sacred Art).
Every Saturday from 10.00-14.00 there is a handicraft market in the square.

Driving three times a day from Arrecife to Harn, bus (ok. 1 at) stops at several stops in the town – the last one is at the back of the church and León y Castillo Beach. You can dine in the Dos Hermanos restaurant in the main square or in the very nice Ney-ya bar, whose walls are decorated with quotes from the memoirs of Cesar Manria.

Haria viewpoint

The section of the LZ-10 road between Harp and the approx. 4 km south, the Mirador de Harfa is one of the most spectacular runs in Lanzarote. The road meanders along the edge of a beautiful valley, which can also be admired from the vantage point.
