Arucas
Arucas is famous for two things - the locally produced Arehucas rum and the extraordinary neo-gothic cathedral, Church of San Juan, whose soaring towers quite unexpectedly rise from among the traditional buildings. The cathedral was built in 1909 r. made of stone mined in the area with a unique gray-blue shade, designed by a Catalan architect – perhaps that is why it has something to do with Barcelona's famous Sagrada Familia. At the end of calle León y Castillo, full of neat and colorful colonial houses, stretches the pretty Plaza de la Constitución, followed by the beautiful Parque Municipal.
In a French-style park, with marked alleys, fountains and small pavilions, is the seat of the Museo Municipal, where works by Canarian artists are exhibited. Walking along the park's alleys, you have to be careful – On one of the trees, Parkowy Skrzat is hiding (The Elf of the Park), which, according to local legend, brings good luck to this, who will scratch his nose.
For many people, however, the most interesting is a visit to the Destilerias Arehucas rum factory, during which you can try classic white (White) and golden (oro) rum and the typical Canarian Rum-Honey Liqueur, Roziel, and Banana Liqueur.

Surroundings of Arucas
Being in Arucas, It's hard to miss Montana de Arucas rising north of the city. From created at the top (412 m n.p.m.) Mirador de la Montana de Arucas crater is beautifully seen in the middle, and the northern part of Gran Canaria, and on a clear day, even the top of the Teide volcano in Tenerife. Firg
Just a few kilometers to the north is the picturesque town of Firgas, mainly known for healing waters, whose source is in the nearby Las Madres gorge. Bottled water from Firgas is drunk on all the islands of the archipelago. While walking through the old town, it is worth paying attention to the Iglesia de San Roque and two promenades: Canary Walk, which presents all the seven islands of the archipelago, oraz Paseo de Gran Canaria, where the various municipalities of the island are lined with colored ceramic tiles
There is a bus to Firgas several times a day #204 z Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. There is a tourist information office and two popular restaurants in the town: Grill of the Embers, where you can try excellent and inexpensive grilled food, and Los Chorros, famous for its typical Canarian cuisine. As for accommodation, it is worth staying at the Fonda Doramas complex on the beautiful Mirador de Firgas, a few kilometers south of the town. There are hotel rooms in the center run by the local government; you can also spend the night in Albergue Doramas.
