Puddles
Valle del Golfo has it all, what you can dream about: beautiful views, good weather and a climate that allows the cultivation of exotic fruit – seems, that only beaches are missing here. To make up for this shortage, Several charcos have been created on the coast of the valley, that is natural pools with sea water, integrated into natural rock coves.
The flower pot
Three natural swimming pools and a small pebble beach lie in the eastern part of El Golfo, in the village of the same name. A camping area, sheltered from the sun, is separated slightly above the pools (wooden tables, stone barbecues, running water). Several meters to the right of the pools, a rock grows, the water of which gave the shape of a semicircular bridge – arco (arc). Charming La Maceta restaurant next to the car park, considered one of the best in this part of the island, serves fresh fish and other dishes typical of the island cuisine.
Puddle the Sargos
There is another natural bathing area near La Maceta. Charco de los Sargos is named after a species of perch fish (guardians), occurring exceptionally abundantly in this region. A small and almost unspoiled cove is the perfect place for a quiet and intimate afternoon.
Carnival on El Hierro
Just like on other islands, Carnival is also celebrated on El Hierro, however, on this island it has a slightly less lavish character, but a more folk character. The most interesting tradition is the so-called. Carneros Carnival w La Fronterze, when young men in costumes made of sheepskin walk out into the streets. Their task is to frighten and make the participants of the carnival party laugh.
Blue puddle
Charco Azul is one of the most visited bathing areas, that is, the Blue Cove. The name is probably
a reference to emerald green–the blue color of the water filling two natural pools. Getting to this place is extremely easy – from the road leading along the coast to Pozo de la Salud, turn right at the wooden signpost Charco Azul – after a few minutes' drive between the richly flowered gardens, you reach the car park. The pool itself is not visible from this level – to reach him, after parking the car, take the stairs to the coast (ok. 10 min).
La Laja
Just 600 m before Pozo de La Salud there is another rock bathing area. A natural salt water pool has been created in two charming and extremely calm caves, a stone grill and several wooden tables were set up. La Laja, due to its location in a remote corner of El Golfo, it is by far the quietest of all bathing areas – you can be the only visitor here. Getting to the bathing beach is not complicated – from the HI-550 road leading to Pozo dc la Salud, turn right at the signpost, in a field track. After a dozen or so meters, you reach the car park, from which there is a descent to the first of the two connected bays.
Well of Health
Below, Sabinosa, the small town of Pozo de la Salud is situated by the sea, that is, the Health Well. The name refers to a well erected over a spring with healing water (its properties help in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, digestive, urinary, as well as skin problems and rheumatism). Although the source was officially recognized as medicinal only in 1949 r., is said to be, that the local people knew about the properties of water long before that – apparently one of the families, who drank it, miraculously survived in the havoc of the plague. The properties of El Hierro water were known outside of Spain as early as the 19th century. – it was then that the water from Pozo de la Salud was exported to New York, Venezuela and Cuba. Currently, a well over the beautiful, the rugged coast is closed, but the healing water is said to be tasted free of charge (8.00-16.00) in the nearby hotel Balneario Pozo de la Salud. A bus from La Frontery goes to Pozo de la Salud four times a day. You can stop at the Balneario Pozo de la Salud hotel, visible from the road. Additionally, on site you can take advantage of numerous healing and beauty treatments for a fee. Opposite the hotel, right next to the bus stop, there is a small Bar-Restaurante Pozo de la Salud, where you can have a coffee or a bite to eat.
