La Gomera – guide

Communication

La Gomera is small, so it can be traversed along and across in a few days. Those arriving to the island have the choice of a bus, renting a car or taxi and… own feet. Planning trips, however, you have to remember, that although the distances between the places in a straight line are not too large, the journey takes much longer due to significant changes in altitude.

Bus

La Gomera can be properly traversed along and across by bus, however, it takes a lot of time and of course allows you to reach only the main towns. However, on many routes the bus is useful, especially people, who are planning hiking – can get off on the spot, through which the trail runs, and go to the next town, where the bus stops. The ticket costs from 2 (e.g.. San Sebastian-Hermigua) do 5 € (e.g.. San Sebastian-Valle Gran Rey).

From the island's main bus station in San Sebastian (Avda.V Centennial; 922141101, srgomera@servicioregulargomera.com, www.servicioregularlagomera.com) buses connecting the capital with the most important towns leave. Don't be surprised, if the vehicle leaves approx. 10 minutes ahead of time, without passengers – most buses go first to pick up the tourists waiting at the port, and then returns to the station at the scheduled time.

Taxi

Taxis are not the cheapest way to get around the island – especially you have to watch out for taxi drivers, who drive without taximeters. For example, the cost of travel on the San Sebatian-Valle Gran Rey route (83 km) it's some 60 C, San Sebastian-Airports (35 km) ok. 35 €, to port San Sebastian—Parador ok. 10 €. To order a tariff, you have to call: Saint Sebastian 922879524, Santiago Beach 922895922, Great King Valley 9228050588, hermigua 922880047, complaint 922801074, Beautiful valley 922800279.
